Rochester Rotary Scholars Experience Life at Naz

Rochester Rotary Scholars from Rochester City School District’s Roberto Clemente, School # 8, visited the School of Business and Leadership earlier this month. Dr. Ken Rhee, Dean, and Nuala Boyle, Director of Civic Engagement and Experiential Learning Outcomes, welcomed the scholars, their family members, and Rotary mentors. The group toured campus, enjoyed dinner at the dining hall, and concluded the evening with a reflection.

Rosa LaDelfa, ‘86, of the group, reports, “The Scholars, family members and mentors were happy to be given an opportunity to tour Nazareth…Students loved the grounds, the programs that Nazareth offers, diversity of the students they encountered, the pool, dinner and most important our student ambassadors, Kelsey [Barrett, ’19] and Andrew [Johnston, ‘21].”

Established in 2001, the Rochester Rotary Scholars Program adopted a mission “to provide incentive, mentoring support and community exposure for one or two qualified students annually from the 5th Grade class at Roberto Clemente School #8, … [the] Club’s adopted school. Incentive strategies include working with the students’ families, teachers, administrators, Rotarians, and community agencies to support educational, community service, and social goals, with an eye also on youth employment opportunities for … young scholars.” The goal of Rotary Scholars Program is “to have selected students successfully graduate from high school with a B or better average and participate in Scholarship Program mentoring and planned activities from 6th through 12th grades, resulting in them being awarded a post-secondary education scholarship from Rochester Rotary.”
